SOLIHULL MP SPARKS 'KNIT ONE, SAVE ONE' CAMPAIGN

12.55.13pm UTC (GMT +0000) Mon 18th Aug 2008

Solihull's MP, Lorely Burt has taken up her knitting needles with Redlands Road resident, Pauline Brisker to knit baby hats to help Save the Children's latest campaign to save ten million children's lives.

Lorely asked Pauline and her circle of knitting volunteers to help Save the Children's 'Knit One, Save One' campaign, encouraging people in the UK to knit life-saving hats for newborn babies around the world. Over 25,000 knitters are already taking part.

''The large majority of child deaths are preventable and its wonderful to know that a simple solution such as knitting a hat can help to save a life," said Lorely.

"I hope the fact that such a small action can have an impact will inspire people to take part in this campaign and knit a hat for Save the Children."

Any church, youth or volunteer group can take part. Details of the campaign can be found at

Experienced knitters and novices alike are knitting hats for vulnerable newborn babies in countries around the world. Knitters are being asked to attach messages to their hats asking the Prime Minister to make saving children's lives a priority.
